Braden wondered how Dagastino had learned about the arrest of Menendez in Alaska. Who had taken money in exchange for supplying the mob boss with the most recent information on Selena? It could be anyone from a clerk to a judge. He couldn’t go in accusing and pointing fingers, but he would definitely stay alert.

When it got right down to it, this mole who’d sold out to Dagastino was responsible for the deaths of three men. Braden would make them pay.

It’d been a week since he’d seen Sarah. He glanced up from the piles of paperwork on his desk and stared at the telephone. He’d considered calling her. He’d called the Memphis marshal just to see if she made it home safely. She had. Though he didn’t like the attention the mishap had drawn from the news media.

Hell. He wanted to hear her voice. His life had never felt emptier than when they parted at the airport. The impact had hit him hardest when he’d entered his lonely apartment, climbed between cool sheets, and stared at the ceiling for hours, missing her.

During the next month, he thought of Sarah less. After his knee surgery, he had so many cases backed up that he had little time for his thoughts to stray. His social life was on the verge of making the endangered species list due to the long, exhausting hours he put into his job. He stood from his desk and stretched.

A woman from the front office approached him. “Catch up, yet?”

“Nah, but I’m not sweating it.”

She smiled seductively. “Since you don’t have time to cook, why not let me cook for you Saturday night?”

He started to tell her no. Then he realized being with the sexy blonde might be just the cure for getting Sarah out of his head.

“Patricia, isn’t it?”

“Yes, Patricia Green.”

“Sure, what time?”

“Seven.”

Saturday night Braden knocked on the apartment door. Patricia answered, wearing a tight fitting T-shirt and blue jeans. Her nipples bulged through the thin stretchy material. She wore toe rings and an anklet. She never looked like this at work. He stepped through the doorway. “I’m overdressed.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll undress you in a little while.”

Nothing like a woman who knows what she wants.

He followed her to the kitchen and sat at the table while she put the finishing touches on dinner. When she bent over to check the bread in the oven, her top raised revealing her ass in the low-riding denim. She wasn’t wearing any panties. No, surprise there.

While they ate the cranberry chicken she’d prepared, she glanced up at him and unexpectedly asked, “So tell me about this woman you mistook for Selena Menendez.”

He blotted his mouth.“What about her?”

“Do you think she plans to sue?”

He shrugged. “Probably not.”

“Identical twins. Who would’ve known?”

Braden had accepted this dinner to clear his head of Sarah. “One reason I don’t usually date someone from work is because I don’t want to talk shop all night.”

She placed her hand on his. “You’re absolutely right. Sorry about that. It’s just that I find it fascinating.
